Patchwork Baby Blanket

Patchwork Baby Blanket

Original design

Yarn: Zara by Filatura Di Crosa

Sorry, don’t have needle or gauge information…

For this blanket I chose stitch designs simply based on whether they looked like they were fun to make. I got them from Vogue Knitting and maybe some from 440 More Knitting Stitches - Volume 3, I don’t actually remember. The back lining was knit up with yet another stitch pattern and more Zara. So this blankie is VERY warm, soft and cozy. And colorful! It was hard to capture the colors correctly in pictures, but this yarn is quite lovely. The blanket was for a little newborn, one of my best friends’ baby boy.

Hi. I love your blanket as I am starting a patchwork one, too. Can I ask how many stiches you did across or how big each segment was approximately? I am doing a bunch of small ones and now I am thinking they are too tiny.

    Thanks!
    Francesca

    Hi Francesca -

Thanks! This was a fun blanket to make - especially cause I didn’t really plan it out and just made it up as I went along… I can’t actually remember how many stitches I did across. I’ve given the blanket away so I can’t measure how big the squares were, but I would say probably around 5″ or so. And I think the blanket (since it was a small baby blanket) was only about 4 squares wide by 5 squares tall.

Hope that helps. Good luck with your blanket!

It looks like she used a very wide blanket stitch to stitch her squares together, gives it a neat little touch :)

Hi, can i just ask how you stitch each of the squares together. I have begun a blanket and have so many squares, i need to start putting them together. Thanks

Hey jodie smith, I was wondering that too. I am doing plain garter stitch squares and since this is my first blanket I am new to this. I am just a kid anyway. Please post another comment on this page to reply. Plus I don’t know how to do knit stitch anyway. Wow, I’m dumb. No one in my family knits, so I don’t know what to do. Please reply. If you can reccomend a book/website I would be grateful. Thanks!

Hi ya jodie and daniella! firstly well done for getting stuck into knitting! Its great fun! Don’t woory to much about sewing your squares together, just get a contrasting wool and sew in a cross stitch, it looks great and is quick and easy! or you can crochet them together or use a needle and some yarn and stitch together in a way that looks like the stitches on the square. There are loads of great knitting books out there and its easier to see what i mean if you have some diagrams to follow. My advice is don’t get bogged down in the technicalities! keep it fun!!! goodluck and may this be a life long passion!

I believe that a home foreclosure can have a major effect on the debtor’s life. Property foreclosures can have a 6 to 10 years negative effect on a borrower’s credit report. Any borrower who may have applied for a mortgage or virtually any loans for that matter, knows that the worse credit rating is definitely, the more complicated it is to secure a decent personal loan. In addition, it could affect a borrower’s capability to find a respectable place to let or rent, if that results in being the alternative housing solution. Great blog post.

I knit a few patchwork blankets a year. Since 2005 I have knitted 13 blankets ranging from double bed to baby cot size. I have one that I am working on at the moment and have given away all the others to friends and family. I start with 1 stitch and increase one stitch per row until I have 30 stitches and then knit 2 together until I have one stitch and then cast off. This way I don’t have to think too much and can knit while I am doing other things like watching TV or chatting to friends.

I sew a baby cot sheet on the back by hand. It has to be tacked, pinned and sewn by hand, but keeps the blanket in shape and makes the blanket warmer.
