Life and Other Things

“Time is the longest distance between two places” - T. Williams

A confluence of events resulted in my long absence from blogging life. The precipitating factor, of course, was my lack of internet connection (not even dial-up, people) for an extended period of time. You really don’t want to know how long. The story of my fight to get an internet connection in my new apartment is similar to the plot of a horror movie and it would either drive you insane or simply give you screaming nightmares if you heard it. I’m totally not exaggerating or anything. Anyway life happens, and to be honest, not much knitting was going on for quite a while. I’ve been working many hours, traveling more, and generally not spending much time on the interweb.

But now I’m excited to catch up with what people are working on and I’ve already started on a couple of new projects. The vintage coat has taken a backseat, but has not been forgotten. To get back in to the swing of things, I spied Eunny Jang’s pattern in Interweave Knits for these lovely entrelac socks. (By the way, colors are more saturated in these pics than in real life).

I heart entrelac. It’s so much more interesting to me than just knitting around and around and around… which is why I think I might actually finish these knee-high honeys. If my cat doesn’t eat them first.

I have a couple of other projects coming up that I’ll tell you about later. One which could require audience participation for a good cause, yay! So stay tuned, I will return…

P.S. - If anyone wrote to me or commented and I haven’t responded, I’m sorry. I will try to catch up with everyone’s questions soon. Thanks for your patience!

Resolutions, Anyone?

Posted on January 5th, 2007. About Updates, Vintage Knits, Yarn.

I spent the holidays in California, and while it didn’t exactly afford me a white wonderland Christmas morning, I got plenty of “tangelos” (or whatever those things were). It was fun and sunny. I also got to meet my mom’s new dogs: a standard poodle and a poodle/golden retriever mix. “Cute” is a poor word to describe these girls.

Like a little lamb, she is.

And this one has the most ginormous paws I’ve ever seen in real life on an animal.

Oh, and did you want to know about knitting? Really, now. Well, what with moving, and being out of town I obviously have not been what you might call “productive.” But I *did* receive in the mail this lovely yarn I will be using to make the 30’s coat.

I don’t feel too bad about not starting this sucker yet, because apparently it is supposed to be 70 degrees F. in New York tomorrow?! So no rush. Maybe I’ll just go to the beach, instead, or something.

I still don’t have internet access (blah), so thanks to David Fineburg for letting me use his interweb computer. Oh yeah, and my new year’s resolution is to get internet set up in my house. But not really. I’ll tell you what it is later, maybe… :)

Hello!!

Posted on December 20th, 2006. About Updates.

Bet you thought I might never be coming back?! I am, I promise. I know I keep writing that I’m back from an extended break, and then I take another extended break. But I haven’t had internet access in a while since I moved to a new apartment. Things have been busy but I have some pretty new yarn to show off. Just wanted to say hi and that I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season.

Have a wonderful New Year, everyone!!! I’ll see you then.

Last Sunday

Posted on June 18th, 2006. About Updates.

My grandfather, John B., passed away last weekend at the age of 89. I spent last week with my family in my hometown in Nebraska - this picture was taken at the garage he owned and operated for most of his life. John went to work (or gossip) there every day of the week except Sundays, right up until the last few weeks before he died. He was a unique man, and will be remembered fondly by many.

Love you, grandpa.

I’ve put up a page about the patchwork baby blanket (from my “Finished Objects”) in case you were curious.

(By the way, has everyone already seen this?

Go check it out if you haven’t. It was made last year (by a guy, yay), but I never looked at knitting blogs back then.

It’s seriously intarsia. And those squares are tiny.

Cray. Zee.)

Knitting is currently in progress, but can’t show pictures yet. Have a great holiday weekend, and I’ll see you back here with a finished somethin or other.

Um, You’re Kidding, Right?

Posted on May 1st, 2006. About Blue Socks, Men Knit, Updates, Yarn.

I obviously have a disorder consisting of a deficit of attention when it comes to knitting. But now I have a good excuse for starting yet ANOTHER project - I am trying to encourage my guy friend to continue his knitting and give moral support during the hard times while he is still learning (and getting frustrated). So we went yarn shopping together the other day, and bought Harris Yarn 4 Ply in a blue shade and a mustard-y brown shade. So very pretty. I mean, ruggedly masculine. We will be doing our own private knitalong, but I won’t reveal the actual pattern until we know exactly what it is…

Also, I’m still updating the finished projects section on the right. I’ve added a little info about the elephant, for anyone who is curious.
