Ursula Bag

Pattern by: me*
Yarn: Knit Picks Merino Style in Fog and Coal
Needles: Size US3
Finished Size: About 11.5″ X 11.5″
Man, how long did it take me to do this? It’s been hanging around for months. And I had already done all the harder stuff (i.e. figuring out the intarsia pattern), so I don’t know what took me so long. But now that it’s done, I’ll take her everywhere. I can bring knitting with me and show off my kitty at the same time. Even on top of tall tall buildings.
Here’s a pic of the finished lining. I turned over a bit of the knitting and sewed it over the lining to make a nice edge. Yay!

Good girl, well done! Love the skyline, was the poor bugger taking the picture suspended in mid air or on the way down to ground level? Now people are going to stop you in the street and asked you where you bought it, when you tell them you made it, they will be asking you to make them for them! they will drive you crazy.

At first I thought you did a really greay photoshop job! The bag turned out fabulous, nice job on the lining! I just made the mistake of showing it to my bf, now he wants socks with his cat on them.

Cool picture!! and, cool bag! It looks great. Can you please give me a little assistance in explaining how you sewed the lining into the knitting? Thanks!

Thanks!!
Ericka - This is how I sewed the lining: I cut out the fabric basically in the same shape as the knit bag (I gave it 1 inch sides and bottom, so it’s not just a back and a front). I machine sewed those pieces together to make a bag, and left the open top unhemmed. Then I pinned the lining on the inside of the bag, and folded my 1 inch knitted “hem” over the top of the lining. I hand sewed them together using a whipstitch on the bottom edge of the “hem.” I lined the strap, too, by cutting a piece the same size as the strap plus a seam allowance, folding the edges under and machine sewing on either side down the strap. The ends of strap lining were hand sewn on. Hope that helps! Let me know if you need more info.

I love that bag! It’s so cool, awesome, neat - you pick the word. And the skyline photo is great, too. Very urban.
