Look What I’m Getting
Inspired by the vintage lace pattern in the Loop-d-Loop sweater, I ordered some vintage knitting patterns to lovingly look at and hopefully utilize at some point in the future. It’s amazing how modern some of these sweaters look, even from the 20’s and before. Here is a selection of the patterns that I will be getting in the mail - they are from a Bear Brand pattern book and a Minerva pattern book.

I plan on making two of these sweaters for definite sure, can you guess which ones?
By the way, I ordered these from Iva Rose Vintage Reproductions. She has an amazingly large collection of vintage patterns - it’s actually a little overwhelming. You can also check out Yesterknits (it’s based in Scotland) for another crazily-large collection of patterns, although I haven’t ordered anything from them as of yet.

As beautiful as much of the knit clothing was (I especially like the styles from the 20’s - sporty! and the 30’s - v. feminine), apparently women of the past had also to deal with their own brand of fugly.
Hm. What would have been the pre-world-war saying for “WTF”?

WTF is right! Nothing like drawing a little more attention to one’sbreastesteses. Wait! If you pull that down a little that could actually be a BRA! Yeah! That’s it! A long sleeved bra! Ok. I think you are making the bottom sweater and the one with birds on it? Hmmm? Thanks for your opinion on the colors. I am happy with it…and don’t worry. I won’t get too far. I have some serious finishing of other stuff I NEED to get done. must….flog….self…

You’re right on one - I will be making the little birdy-sweater (actually not quite sure if they are birds, or just little abstract shapes?) with the bow.
Good to know I got some time on SDWL. V. excited to start, though!

Ooo, I hope it’s the ones on the right in the first two rows. They’re gorjiss, and very flattering. Which ones are you thinking?
I have an old Russian-language book of knitting patterns. From the 60s, I think, so not as old as this. But alot of the things in there, I’d wear. The problem is that none of the patterns give gauge, and I don’t know the Russian nomenclature for yarn size. Which could make things interesting!
