Posted on Saturday, July 8th, 2006 at 2:31 pm. About Lace Blouse, Season of Darkness and Winter Light.

After All This Time…

I marvel at the knitters who can just crank away with the yarn and produce whole sweaters in a matter of hours and days. It’s not like that for me - I take my sweet time, often stopping for a break after I finish a row or two. Sometimes I do spend quite a bit of time knitting on a weekend, then I’ll get burnt out and just have to put the needles down, g*d*mnit.

So slow going, but progress made on both the lace blouse and Season. Observe:

I’m up to the armhole shaping on the one side. Still lovin it! I feel like a girly girl, making a whole big pink sweater. I forgot to mention before that I tried out “combined knitting” for the first time on the ribbed section here. Any of you who haven’t heard of this style can check out Annie Modesitt’s site for more details. I can’t say it changed my life or anything, but I think that’s because I’m a right-handed knitter. It appears to me (based on my superficial investigation) that this might be a more handy style for a left-handed, Continental knitter, because maybe it makes purling easier?! Anyone out there who uses this style and knows more about it, I’d be curious to hear what you think.

And:

Just a couple inches done on the sleeve. I ripped out the first inch or so that I knit because I realized I was pulling the floats too tight. I’ve done fair isle several times now, but the true art of getting the right tension, consistently, eludes me. Like, no matter what I do, some of my stitches are going to look wonky.

At any rate, I can’t wait to try Season on!! Oh, wait, I have to knit it first.

I don’t usually post these kinds of pictures, but there are some things you can’t say “no” to:

Oh, I LOVE the colors! Love them. The color variation looks much brighter to me than in the book and I must say I prefer yours. Excellent. I like the blouse a lot, too. Not much of a pink fan, but I find I am leaning toward some girlie colors lately, too. Pink is included in that. Just got some pink and orange Converse Hi-Tops. heh heh. Totally girlie. You are doing great work. ;0)

Some days I do nothing BUT knit, not even getting up for hours, and others, I can’t make two stitches.

The sweaters are looking great. The pink one IS really girlie, in a good way!

    The kitten is adorable.

I love the pink! It will look great. And, I love Ursula, she’s soooo cute! Please give her a kiss for me!

Both sweaters are gorgeous! Gorgeous. Enh, work at your own speed, but yes, some people can really churn out the knitting, can’t they? I envy them, but I’m not one of them.

Ursula has nailed that bunny impression. Cute!

That’s very interesting — I make my knit stitches like that, but not my purl stitches. I /used/ to do that, but then ‘realized’ that I was making a twist stitch (the stitch sits differently on the needle than in the standard method). Your work looks great, though.

The sweaters are looking great - I have been leaning towards pink myself recently, so unlike my non-girly self. Ursula is absolutely adorable!

Would love to know what yarn and the gauge you’re using for the lace blouse? It looks slightly variegated too. I’m on the hunt for a certain pink in a fingering or lighter weight.

    Very cute bunny pose!

Janet - the yarn is Frog Tree 100% Alpaca Fingering Weight wool, color #95. My gauge on size 1 needles is 10.5 sts per inch for the ribbing and 7.5 sts per inch for the lace. And it’s not variegated at all! It probably just reads that way online because of the light in the pictures.
